Resolute is the fourth book in the Kris Longknife Series. It recounts Kris Longknife's adventures as commander of Naval District 41 above Chance. A battle fleet from the Greenfield Confederacy led by Hank Smythe-Peterwald attempts to establish a presence on Chance. Kris and a motley collection of reservists and retirees drive off the invading ground invasion. Hank leaves Chance's space but he turns around and attempts destruction of the United Sentients space station and vessels and subjugation of the population. The vessel on which Hank Smythe-Peterwald is travelling is destroyed in combat and Hank dies when his safety ejection pod fails.
Kris learns that Hank has a sister, Victoria Peterwald.
The action takes place approximately four months after the Battle of Wardhaven.
